Luxury yacht builder Rodriquez was founded in 1887 by Leopoldo Rodriquez as a naval service shipyard in the Sicilian port of Messina. Leopoldo’s son Carlo expanded the shipyard’s operations during World War II by servicing Italian submarines and railway cars. In 1956, innovator Carlo Rodriquez launched the first hydrofoil for commercial applications, Freccia del Sole. The construction of hydrofoils and fast ferries soon became a successful business for the shipyard. In 1998, Rodriquez also began manufacturing auxiliary marine components.
In 2012, Italian commercial shipbuilding group Intermarine spa incorporated the Rodriquez Cantieri Navali, Rodriquez Marine System and Conam trademarks. Intermarine operates three shipyards: in Messina, La Spezia and Sarzana, Italy.
The 37.8M Rodriquez luxury yacht Light Blue launched in 2005. Featuring exterior styling and interior décor by yacht designer Francesco Paszkowsky, Light Blue is an aluminium planing yacht with a cruising speed of 23 knots.
In 2009, luxury yacht builder Rodriquez launched the 41.6M Motor Yacht Ocean Sapphire, first of a trio of superyachts designed by British architect Sir Norman Foster. Intended for fractional ownership, the three Ocean sister ships feature highly unique contemporary exterior lines.
